The number formatting should be in accordance with excel. The options available in excel for number formatting is quite brilliant.
I hope Power BI can somehow integrate custom number formatting in the desktop version.

Thank you.

RE: Number formatting

In Excel, the "Accounting" format will treat 0 and 0.01 differently when displaying with no decimal places. If it's a "true" zero, it will be displayed as a dash, but if it rounds to zero, it will be displayed as a 0. It is quite literally impossible to replicate this in Power BI across ALL THE NUMBERS unless Microsoft fixes the formatting to match Excel.

RE: Number formatting

My financial statement reports look pretty good but would be stellar if there was a way to format like in Excel as noted in the comment on 3/7/2022 - that underscore + right paren allows you to align positive and negative numbers on the decimal point.

RE: Number formatting

It's 2022 and we still need to jump through hoops to do a simple Excel "0.00_);[Red](0.00)" Why @PowerBI Why ???

RE: Number formatting

A simple example such as #,#;[Red](#,#) is helpful for accountants who want to peruse a list of numbers and quickly identify out of scope comparisons. Financial Statements still reside in the purview of a matrix with traditional columns and rows - and that means long lists of chart of accounts, and multiple columns of siloed information to compare.

RE: Number formatting

Sometimes it would be very useful to have a plus-sign in front of a decimal number without the loss of the number Features because now with the Format function it's a text field.

RE: Number formatting

The ability to have different formats for numbers based on their value would be great. For example; [>999950]$0.00,,"M";$0.0,"k" would switch from displaying numbers in thousands to million ( $999.9k or $1.06M ). This would help keep visible digits to a minimum for displaying in visuals.

RE: Number formatting

It is quite frustrating that I have to add new measures to format negative numbers to include brackets i.e. display -1,000 as (1,000). In doing so I lose the ability to 'See Records' so have to add a second table to my display to allow drill down ability to the raw data, which still has the original formatting. I also have to add a further measure to remove all blank combinations which now appear in my reports. A simple custom number format option like in Excel should be a standard, why over complicate things that cause you to lose other functionality?!?
