The number formatting should be in accordance with excel. The options available in excel for number formatting is quite brilliant.
I hope Power BI can somehow integrate custom number formatting in the desktop version.

Thank you.

RE: Number formatting

This feature of allowing to customize date formats is really necessary.
You can define columns with a specified date format but in some cases such
as when using SUMMARIZE the FORMAT cannot be applied to define the date
presentation

RE: Number formatting

PLEASE FIX THIS! If I cant get the visual formatted correctly, it just doesn't matter how good the data model is (how many connectors, how many insights, etc).

Please fix this, and other basic things (format negative numbers as red) so we can get adoption for this tool.

RE: Number formatting

In the matrix and table visuals, there already exists a "Column Formatting" drop down menu that lets you manage column specific settings. It would be nice to have the ability to set number formatting at the column level.

I have a lot of $ measures that would be nice to show rolled up to higher denominations in some tables. Eg, $10,000 to $10T or $1,000,000 to $1M.

RE: Number formatting

Strange to see so many posts on this 'improvement' needed yet I don't think anything has been done. Please help!

RE: Number formatting

The ability to format numeric values and have them in charts would be extremely useful. Whilst using the FORMAT () function works very nicely for tables and matrices the fact that these measures cannot be used in charts is a real limitation.

RE: Number formatting

I agree, custom date format badly needed.

RE: Number formatting

• Add Formatting of numbers to Transform (i.e. what can be done in Modelling)
• Right align numbers in tooltips (they are currently left aligned)
• How to format numbers as results of Count for instance Count Name?
• Allow options to be valid throughout the PBIX file or even throughout several PBIXs for instance, number formatting: chose it once and apply it by default to all

RE: Number formatting

I agree. Specifically, in the "Modeling" screen. For a model with a date column, you can pick from a list of formats. I'd like to be able to enter a custom format.

Or, if it's easy to add another format to the list of formats, I would really like to see "ddd, yyyy-MM-dd" ... or, for example, "Thu, 2016-08-04"

Thanks!

RE: Number formatting

When typing in a custom color hex number into any of the visualization format panes, the window closes after the first three hex numbers are entered.  We used to be able to type in the entire number and close by pressing Enter.  Any chance we can get the original functionality back?  It's a real pain to have to reopen the dialogue after entering only the first three hex numbers!

RE: Number formatting

Definitely need this. I've got a situation where a clients wants to see several years on the same 12 month chart with trend lines. Since there's no "MMM" format I'm stuck with an X axis that reads "May 2016" even if only the year 2015 is selected. The client was cool about it, but was kinda surprised as the Tableau solution they had before seemed to handle it just fine.

A truly exhaustive list of built in formats would suffice for me if there's some huge internal technical hurdle but custom formatting strings would be way better.

It'd be awesome to be able to add labels using formatting string like "0.00 "Units/Hr"" as well.
