RE: power bi service data refresh error
Agree - I'm surprised this is not more popular, there seem to be lots of "Something went wrong, contact Microsoft to find out what" style errors.
e.g.
I have a scenario where there are several hundred tables in my refresh.
If a column in one table is removed, I get:
"There was an error when processing the data in the dataset.
Please try again later or contact support. If you contact support, please provide these details.
Data source error: The '__something_someone_removed' column does not exist in the rowset."
[usual log reference info]
But it doesn't tell me *which* rowset - which leaves me having to download and refresh the report locally to investigate (which takes *ages*)
Golden rule of error reporting - give the person responsible for resolving the error enough information to resolve the error. In this case it will be the person setting up and monitoring the report refresh in PowerBI, not Microsoft Support!
RE: power bi service data refresh error
Agree, too of many useless internal service errors. But, it also looks like the error reporting does not always work well, i had a data type error in one of the tables, and only after removing most of the other tables in the dataset, a useable error showed.
RE: power bi service data refresh error
"random" refresh failures erode by organization's trust of PowerBI! I'd like to root cause my refresh errors! Help!

Also, an end time when a timeout happens would be appreciated.
