Currently the "URL Icon" functionality in the Power BI service will not work with a streaming dataset because streaming datasets only have Text, Number, and Date/Time classifications. When you enable URL Icon, nothing happens because the field is still classified as Text. If I do conditional formatting on the field to make it a Web URL, the rows are highlighted properly as URLs. However, enabling URL Icon after that does nothing.

To replicate the issue:

  1. From the Power BI cloud service, create a new Streaming dataset with at least 1 text field
  2. Populate the text field with a valid URL
  3. Create a New Report from the Power BI cloud service using the streaming dataset
  4. Add the URL column to a table
  5. Enable the URL Icon feature from the Format Visual tab

The URLs will continue to show as text and not icons. Even if you also do conditional formatting of the column as a Web URL

RE: Add 'Web URL' Classification to Streaming Datasets

I am experiencing the same problem, the long text expands the column and hard to navigate and present on a screen. Very interested in hearing a solution to this! Following
