Just tested field parameters and it is amazing! We used to do this ourselves with a quite complicated construction of an extra table, inactive relations and extra measures. Now it can be done with a couple of clicks.
To provide our clients with some controlled self-service I used field parameters to:
- toggle between axis categories
- toggle between legend categories
- toggle between measures
This works great in for instance a stacked bar chart. A small annoying thing is the sorting of both the axis as the legend. For instance if I have the axis sorted on the category (so not on the measure) and I switch the legend categories, it changes the sorting back to sorting on the measure. Somehow you should make clear it should be sorted on whatever field you chose in the parameter.
Other than that: very happy with this new feature!

When working with a visual that has field parameters, it would be good if the sort could be more generic, rather than sort by a specific field, it should be possible to sort by field parameter.i.e.A field parameter that switches between [Total Sales] and [Change vs Prior Year] by Territory[Counrty].The resulting chart only makes sense 50% of the time.If I sort by [Total Sales] Descending, then it looks great until we switch to [Change vs Prior Year].A better option for me would beSort Axis > Table[Column] [Measure] [Field Parameter]This would allow users who need the chart to always display based on [Total Sales] to select the [Measure] option, but I could select [Field Parameter] option, and then the chart would always sort based on the selected field parameter value.

I actually think this is a bug, so hopefully it will be picked up with a coming release.
