The Power BI Desktopis missing integration with the Data Catalog and there is no online search functionality. The data catalog is a core component of the reporting solution so let me use it with the Power BI Designer

Having an enterprise-wide list of all of the data sources used for reporting and analysis and making that list available to everyone using Power BI will help people discover, gain access to and understand data sources they may not have known existed, and in turn increase the value of the reports they create.

Consider using Azure Data Catalog, a cloud-based service for cataloguing all the data assets in your organization, to store your inventory of data sources.

'This is such a glaring gap with PBI. We need an easy way for PBI users to pick from an existing, curated, blessed list of:

- Data sources/connections, and,
- Queries/data sets

These should be shared objects so that if they're changed in one central place, all dashboards get updated.

Without this, everyone is recreating the wheel, and a "single version of the truth" is all but impossible.

Can Power BI use Data Catalog, today?

I would like to see the ability to publish queries as APIs to the Azure Data Catalog where they can be more completely documented and are searchable and usable to users of Power BI, Excel and other tools. I would also like to see an option for Power BI Server information (e.g. report/dashboard names, links to datasets, owners/users etc) to be automatically synchronised with Azure Data Catalog.

MICROSOFT ... Wake UP!!!

We are all trying to tell you that this needs to be changed immediately!! It is planned as of FEB 2015!! You have already promised all users with Pro licenses this feature like it is readily available. What gives!!!

I'd like to have just one .pbix to shape the datamodel, then to publish this en power bi service as a content pack. After to connect to this content pack from Power BI Desktop to créate Report.

So, when I need to modify or improve de datamodel, I`d work only in the datamodel pbix once.

Planned as if 2/17/15... yet it is touted as one of the features when you sign up for Power BI Pro. Feel like I got a burger with no bun :(

So odd that this is in Power Query but not Power BI Desktop. Doesn't matter. I can't login to the Power Query one anyway :(

Self-service BI isn't just about giving users access to tooling; they need access to data. If data remains silo'd, the whole idea of self-service BI will just wither on the vine.

Funny, I was looking for this because I was triggered by the pricing page. It is mentioned as being part of the Pro version, but it is not there yet.
