Current-state we cannot download a pbix that has been modified via the XMLA endpoint. That means we are then forced to use only the service-based editor from that point forward for any report where we take advantage of this great capability.

Please enable the option to download as pbix even if modified by xmla endpoint.

RE: Enable download pbix for files modified via XMLA write operation

Regarding the comments posted previously, it seems (based at least on a single "sample") that downloading a .pbix file which contains only the visualization layer (i.e., it is live-connected to a dataset) has begun to work (and yes, more specifically even in the case that the dataset in question has been written to via the XMLA endpoint). This is a step in the right direction, but naturally does not solve the original problem with downloading the datasets themselves back as .pbix files.

Experiencing the same situation as Julius, unable to download PBIX both datasets as well as reports live-connected to separate dataset deployed/modified via the XMLA endpoint. The Download PBIX-button is enabled though on reports (opposed to being greyed out), as if it indeed it should work to download PBIX, but an error message is thrown when clicking it.

Is there a deep technical complexity fixing this issue or is it indeed perhaps a low-hanging fruit?
In any case it would be great if this could be fixed since as of now this is perceived as an annoying bug.

Also, we cannot download a .pbix report file live-connected to separate dataset modified via the XMLA endpoint.
Enabling this could be a great "low-hanging fruit" for the Power BI dev team in this area, as it might be much simpler implementation-wise.
