Direct Query SQL connection to CWM is now possible. If you want to publish your reports, you need to set up an on-premise gateway. If you are a cloud partner, you need to either have CWM Premium or the cloud data access add-on ($75-200/month as of this posting).

'@Opal link had some new flaws recently pointed out, which mainly included CW changing the API to include a ClientID. Once the ClientID was added along side the authorization, the API resumed working. Along with the connection being insecure, the other aspect I found was you can't refresh from the Power BI service.

@Opal figured out another way of implementing this, which might be a hidden secret from CW. It is the ConnectWise Web Report URL Creator. Once you generate the string, you can pull back the requested information. It does include an encrypted string of the credentials and such, so still not entirely secure, but this way does allow for the Power BI Service to refresh the reports. It also doesn't require loops in the data to only pull back 1000 rows at a time.

Agreed this would be awesome especially if in CW Hosted where direct SQL access is not possible. For those waiting Opal have come up with a way to connect via REST but it looks insecure given the CW public and private key are passed in the http header.

I would find this really useful. I have CW Manage connected on our Onprem sql database. But we also have a cloud hosted CW and would like to fully Integratei nto the API.
