Next to the connections to Azure SQL databases, SQL Server analysis services (via Get Data -> Databases) etc., I would like to make a direct connection to a MySQL database (not on premises). In this case there is no need for the Gateway on premises (and server/computer).

Does anybody now a good temporary workaround to keep the hardware in the cloud (nothing on premises)?

Thanks!

I'm nearly done creating a pilot report for a client and I'm astonished to find this to be a roadblock. Please do something about this.

Please add the ability to connect to MySQL databases to all levels of PBI (Desktop or Online) without the need for the gateway. It's very frustrating to create a beautiful report in PBI Desktop, Publish it to PBI Online, and then have to manually refresh and republish from the Desktop to get updates.
