This is a repost of my idea that was closed as completed, but the 'relative date slicer doesn't allow any of the described request hence my idea is not implemented....

The new date slicer is awesome, but it would be so nice if you could set a dynamic date selection instead of a static. With a static filter the user will always have to set the dates before the saved report makes sense - especially as the report gets older.

Dynamic options could be
YTD, QTD, MTD, WTD, Today, This Year, This Quarter, This Month, This Week and so on.

The relative date slicer (a Preview feature as of June '17) gets us close to this with the 'This Month' or 'This Year' settings. That is a dynamic date selection that updates based on the current system date. We plan to add a 'YTD'/'MTD' option to specifically select a range from the start of the month/year up to today, hopefully that'll address the remaining requirements!

Should add a function in the relative date slicer to have a non continuous date range like comparing months/quarters on a YoY basis

The planned fix won't satisfy all requirements. Agree it should be dynamic, but you should be able to set a range...i.e. Relative date is based on data or a set time/date, then show prior 3 month and future 9 months or similar. As data is updated each month, the charts will dynamically shift to show the next window of time.

Before going ahead with this idea, I think it is important to add a slicer format for TimeOfDay. I find it very puzzling why a slicer for date has been implemented for so long but to filter your reports by hours/minutes/seconds of a day is still not available.

In addition to "Last" "1" "Days" it would be great to have the option to select the "most recent" date in the database. I have the situation where my data auto refreshes, but when that doesn't work, I would like to display the most recently fetched data based on the fetch date. Using Last 1 Days shows today's date's data, which then gives no results if the automatic refresh did not occur.

Hi Will, it would be nice if the slicer could accommodate fiscal year slicing.

RE: Dynamic Date Slicer (improve relative date slicer)

Please allow us to use DAX in the properties to specify our begin and end dates. Also, please allow the user to click on a relative date slicer and specify their OWN begin and end dates. Currently if we use a relative date slicer and the user decides they need to view the data with a different begin and end date...that is not possible.

If we show last 6 months and the user decides they really want to see a 9 month window, but starting 3 months ago, that is not possible. They can't just click the filter and pick 1/1/2017 through 9/1/2017. They would have to key in last 24 months or similar to move back that far and they would have far more data displayed than desired (which throws off averages, etc..)

RE: Dynamic Date Slicer (improve relative date slicer)

I'd love the relative date filter to allow me to specify Is Before Today Minus 60 days. Or even "Is NOT This Month"
