    One of the most popular discussions in planning forum is how to have an integrated project control system, every practitioner has a different opinion how it must be done, and of course you get a lot of marketing from people trying to sells their systems

    In this blog, we share high-level description of a data warehouse built using PowerBI desktop.

    Data warehouse are not widespread in the construction industry, because the reporting specifications are different from project to project, and every client has a different systems and tools, and trying to have a standard system works only if you are the main contractor but if you are a subcontractor you have to adopt the client system.

    We are having a good start off on tying our data models together. Currently we keep the cost in our JDE sql database, oure EVM data in a sql database and P6 in its own sql database.

    we can easily, make relationships ad nauseam....
    our success is based on using the right tool for the right job.
    P6 is kept in its place - we only use it for identification of critical path and competing critical paths, and resource requirements.

    I have over 300 P6 licenses and this is working well.

    however, a quick link to the data would be super helpful. we currently run flat reports to excel, apply query steps and push to model.

    direct hooks would save 1000's of man-hours per year.

    If anyone can supply a multi-purpose data model? That would be great! Connecting the right tables and fields for further analysis like resources, cost, EVM... Keep us posted please

    it will be nice to have a native connector, but i guess it is up to oracle to do that, which i doubt they will ever do.

    i had build a small tool to read an xer file, you may find it useful
