From an IT perspective one of the big issues with user driven reporting is the proliferation of expensive and largely overlapping or duplicate queries. However, this could be mitigated if Administrators had the ability to consolidate and otherwise optimise data sources on Server. For example to improve efficiency and reduce source system impacts, individual sources could be replaced by views to data warehouse, marts/cubes or other caches without any changes required client side.
