Lack of this feature is the major reason why my students use Tableau

RE: Direct query with mysql Databases

Why isn't this supported? MySQL is a leading SQL standard - I had assumed all major SQL databases would work with direct query. My initial attempt was with postgres which supports everything standard SQL supports. So does MariaDB, and a dozen others. A SQL query is just that, isn't it? Disregarding extended features.

BTW, would you happen to read this, support for wonderware historian other time series or key value database systems like inquest or redis would be fantastic. Our primary use for power bi is combining data from climate system and sensor logs, QC databases and verification of some sensor systems that are accessible via REST API. All of our sensor logs are stored in various flavours of time series databases and at the moment our best solution is to do a periodical export of our logs to CSV, but if we would keep all data points there would be a 15 second interval between records for all data, which is far too rich, so an intermediate script prunes the data as a stop gap measure. Supporting time series dbs could reduce a lot of overhead in some situations.

Why doesn't it? This needs fixed ASAP. Very. very frustrating and a seemingly needless problem created?

RE: Direct query with mysql Databases

It is surprising that Power BI which leading tool doesn't have directy query option for one of the most populate databases i.e. MySQL.

Please add this support

RE: Direct query with mysql Databases

Not sure about if it is possibel; yes or no because the screen suggests it is possible in the February 2019 update it seems so...
I used the ODBC connection but after a quick try using Advanced options with SELECT * from [TABLE] PowerBI gives the error:

We encountered an error while trying to connect.

Details: "ODBC: ERROR [3D000] [MySQL][ODBC 5.3(w) Driver][mysqld-5.7.14-google-log]No database selected"

It seems that it is almost possible. However when I extract tables without using Freehand SQl it all works.....

Anyone an update about this?
