Power BI Publisher for Excel gave users an easy way to pull data sets into excel for analysis without having to go out to the Power BI service. Unfortunately, it only works with the Old Workspace experience. Will it be updated so that you can connect to data sets in New workspaces directly from excel?

Does this limitation still exist? I am missing some of my workspaces in the Excel Add-in. Is this the reason?

Do not upgrade the old workspace experience to new workspace experience yet (which is in public preview). This is because the publisher for excel is still not supporting the new workspace experience.

The new workspaces are GA yet isn't supported? I now have to create an old workspace just for the sole purpose of housing data sets which then defeats the purpose of Shared Datasets.

What also is strange is that even though I can not see the new workspaces in dialog menu from excel, I can still see all of the reports and datasets that are available in the new workspaces I have access to and I can connect to them in Excel even though it is showing My Workspace in dialog.

RE: Power BI Publisher for Excel - New Workspace support

I'm mystified because a colleague and I were able to connect to a Power BI dataset published in a NEW workspace until this week (1st Oct 2019). He was using Power BI Publisher for Excel and I was using Power BI Report builder. Today neither of us could access that same dataset using these tools - but he can still use his excel report against the pbix dataset published in the NEW workspace and I can modify the Power BI Report builder datasets based on that same pbix dataset. However I can not add a new dataset using it as I can no longer select it... and he can not create another Excel report using it for the same reason.
So it did work for a few weeks and now it doesn't anymore. When is it due to truly become available?

just updated the latest version of PBI Publisher and can't believe the new workspaces still aren't supported! What's going on? This is a really useful feature.

RE: Power BI Publisher for Excel - New Workspace support

Power BI Publisher for Excel has been very handy. However, it has not been updated since Nov 2017. It needs an upgrade to support new Power BI workspaces as most of our workspaces are new ones. The "Connect to Data" dialog should also be upgraded to have similar interface as Power BI Desktop, i.e. show the endorsement - "Certified" data set at the top, followed by "Promoted" ones, followed by normal ones.
