Since June 2022, Analyze in Excel Workbooks are now saved to OneDrive for Business | Microsoft Power BI Blog | Microsoft Power BI. Yet, connecting to an Azure Analysis Services resource is not supported in Excel for the web. This meas that if a user click on 'Analye in Excel' in a report connected to AAS, an error will be displayed. Though opening the excel file in the desktop app will eventually succeed, it is a terrible user experience and many will not discover the workaround.

Please either:

  1. enable Excel Online to connect to an Azure Analysis Services data source
  2. default to downloading the Excel file (previous behaviour) for data sources not supported by Excel for the web.
