Switching between apps is to complex. You have to use the back navigation on the lower left hand side. No other app has navigation for going back in that location. It should be in the top left hand and frankly I am not sure it should exist at all.
A much more optimal approach to switching apps or workspaces would be to turn the name of the App or Workspace into a drop down allowing a user to easily select where they want to go.
