Currently R plotly is supported only up to version version 4.9.2.2. which is more than 2 years old. Recent versions have a lot of useful functionality that would be great to have when writing custom interactive visuals. Old versions have issues with ggplot -> plotly conversions, and using more recent versions would also help build great interactive plots without having to resort to using ggplot and then convert to plotly. Even 4.9.2.9, released on June 2020, contained great functionality like the ability to draw shapes over the plot, which many users find very useful but is not possible today when building pbi custom visuals to be run on the service.
