We should be notified when there is a new version of both gateways. In addition, the Enterprise gateway should be updated automatically (admins should be able to turn this on/off).

This is a critical need. Currently the only way to get a notification is when the gateway fails and we start getting Power BI refresh failures.

Now that we have a cluster, need the notifications on a node basis.

Yes, this is totally necessary. The Nov 2017 release totally broke our gateway and we never had issues in the past. We went this to actually do a good job updating (Im on Windows 2012 R2 server). Pretty standard hardware and software. We should be able to pick a time too, so it doesn't interfere and don't forget a date. The ADF gateway has this feature already for time, but not date.

This is really important given that not updating to the September version of the Gateway meant that our reports stopped refreshing.

I'd like a bit more functionality. I imagine most users will not view the server the gateway is installed on's desktop regularly and so a popup window or any 'alerts' within the gateway window will not be sufficient.

Ideally the gateway should be able to send 'alerts's somehow, or log event log entries that can then be polled by other 'alerts'ing software to generate an email 'alerts' for the server admin team.

Agree that it would be nice to update however it depends how good the auto update experience is, e.g. we dont want the auto update to break during the patching because of various config changes in versions, etc.

this is helpful when the gateway is forgotten on a server somewhere and the IT members didn't check for new releases.

Not having the automatic update on the gateway is a very bad idea. Users relying on the gateway might have their reports not working every time there is an update of Power BI Desktop.

Is there an option to 'alerts' few users when the gateway is not reachable/error/stopped. We are not having any way to monitor the gateway now. If Power BI can send an 'alerts' to the admins if the gateway is not reachable then that would help. I am seeing this issue a lot for direct connections
