One of the biggest issues we have with Power BI in our organization of 35,000 employees, is that we have a lot of line of business reports and often, people that:
- Want to access a report, or
- Have an issue with a report
will contact the service desk, who then route an incident to IT, who then has to investigate (often calling the user who reported the issue for more details), to find the correct report and the owner in the reports contact information. This inefficient circular process can take a few days, before the information is found and is a poor end user experience.
What we would like to do is build a global report, where by any user or the service desk, can lookup a report by name, find the owner information and then follow up with the owner directly, reducing the overall support process from days, to a matter of minutes.
It seems that the Power BI API is unable to pull the owner information from the reports metadata. This would be a very useful feature if Microsoft could include it and would help businesses build a directory of reports and ownership and who to contact for support.
