Mount any existing database in OneLake as a virtual source

To fully enable a Data Mesh/Data Fabric framework it would be great if MS Fabric would be able to mount any of our existing databases in OneLake, not only our Datalakes through Shortcuts but ANY existing data warehouse or single SQL database.

The mounted sources should not just be a connection in the gateway, but instead it should be closely tied to e.g. a Domain who is responsible for that specific source system and who decides what do to with that data from there.

This would embrace the Data Mesh framework and create a complete virtualisation layer across the entire organisation like other Vendors such as Denodo and Starburst offer today.
