Power BI
NewCannot use calculated columns in the composite model due to product limitation
Chin Chin Su on 01 Jun 2023 06:21:05
I am having an issue where any visuals using calculated columns in the composite model won't have data after the dataset is refreshed in the Power BI service.
The Power BI report is connected to a tabular model via direct query and two Excel spreadsheets on SharePoint via import.
The issue only happens when the dataset is refreshed in the Power BI service. It does not happen in Power BI Desktop.
I have switched to use calculated measures instead of calculated column on this report where applicable to make this issue go away, however, there are 2 calculated columns (used in the slicers) that cannot be switched to calculated measures.
ERROR:
Couldn't load the data for this visual
The query referenced calculated column 'Liquids'[SCP2] which does not hold any data because evaluation of one of the rows caused an error. Please try again later or contact support. If you contact support, please provide these details.
I know that Calculated tables aren't supported in the Service using this feature. Attempting to perform a refresh on a dataset with a calculated table or a calculated column that references a DirectQuery data source will result in a "Single sign-on (SSO) credential isn't provided" error message. However, this has affected our Power BI reports that use this feature. Can you please remove this limitation?

Just to note that this design limitation is for the context of composite model based on a dataset or model when working with DirectQuery for Power BI datasets and Analysis Services and does not apply to all datasource types/ model scenarios.
