Connect to datasets in the Power BI service from third-party applications, eg Tableau

Data warehousing is old school.
Power BI has powerful transform and modelling capabilities. They are often much faster to develop a poc on. However for a production environment, real world customers have users of competitor vis layer products. If we build the prod data set in pbi only then those users can plug in say tableau to visual a power bi dataset.

So now I have to decide XML in a logic app, create a sql Db, write sql code and enforce security policies for a sql db. That’s a lot of rework to play catch up to pbi.

If I could connect to the data set in either live connect mode or import mode (to enable users to mash it up with other data sets) then a whole new world of productivity is opened up.
