Please provide option to stop refreshing dataset after refreshing manually...
If there are any performance issues in database this would lock down the table...
I even observed that reports doesnt get published until the refresh is done...

RE: Stop Dataset refresh
Losing hours of time at work everytime something goes wrong with a refresh on Power BI Service. The refresh normally works in 5mins so if we could at least set some sort of threshold here instead of letting it fully run....
RE: Stop Dataset refresh
This we need immediate option. This is the basic feature that should be made available
RE: Stop Dataset refresh
Agree, same issue here. Such a basic feature, again not available for Power BI.
RE: Stop Dataset refresh
I agree. There needs to be a way to Cancel a Refresh, especially when it was discovered that there is suddenly a random issue because of an internal service error.
After bringing up Power BI Desktop and confirming that all data and the report are working without issue, I attempted to perform an On-Demand Refresh that also hung and has been in process for the past hour and based on other comments I suspect will remain this way for about 3 hours before failing. We need the ability to cancel a Refresh, especially if it is On Demand, to prevent this from running for 3 hours.
RE: Stop Dataset refresh
I really like Power BI in general, but this is probably the biggest weakness of the product. And if a dataset is based on dataflows, then there is no way of cancelling the query from the original source database.
RE: Stop Dataset refresh
We must be able to cancel an action, and also configure a timeout ... it's a basic need.
RE: Stop Dataset refresh
Please make a data refresh stop feature, especially for Report/Dashboard owners. I can't update my RLS settings or publish report changes while refreshes are happening. And the many users with access to the report keep hitting refresh over and over and over manually, so I don't get a chance to make updates!
RE: Stop Dataset refresh
Yes, please make this high priority in your next release. Else you are wasting developers time. This feature is expected in any tool which has schedule option. Microsoft has great standards. I think this is valid request from us. I am surprised it is not taken care since this voting started in 2016. Now we are in 2020. Does Microsoft take so long to enable a feature?
I think nobody cares about these ideas which we post. If that is the case then Power Bi will not sell in the market.
RE: Stop Dataset refresh
There are really two places where we need a way to stop/cancel a refresh:
1. At the Power BI Service level - (the Gateway data refresh) - if you click that button by mistake or have an automatic refresh scheduled that fires but you do not want it to run after it has already started, there needs to be a way to cancel/stop it.
2. At the local PBIX file level, you can start the refresh in Power Query when it says your Preview of the data is out of date and then again when you do a Close & Apply, it does another complete refresh.
Would be nice if you had just refreshed the data in the Preview that the Close & Apply realizes this and does not do another full refresh.
Adding a way to cancel a refresh both on the Service or with in the local PBIX file would be very helpful.
Thanks!
RE: Stop Dataset refresh
Two really key problems: one is that the Refresh button doesn't have a pop up 'Are you sure you want to start the refresh?' to avoid accidental pressing; two is that refreshes can be of uncertain time (e.g. new pbix upload, changed parameters).
I can post this message as I now have 3 hours to wait until the refresh is done. I *think* I must have clicked on the refresh button accidentally....but who knows?
Really difficult to manage various refreshes if you can't stop them.
