When using direct query you should be able to change a date axis to show only the month. This works using excel or when doing a transform but neither of these are possible using DirectQuery. Even workarounds like FORMAT can't be used with direct query. This really needs fixing!

RE: Improve Direct Query Date Time Handling
Totally agree with this. I just spent half a day trying to hack a way to do this, only to find it was the direct query killing things.
You're gonna have to add this if you want to claim you support interactive analytics.
RE: Improve Direct Query Date Time Handling
Please add DATE HIERARCHY in Direct Query mode. This is crucial for me. Apart from that there is no functionality with creation of quick measure using Time functions (calculate year over year diff and so on)
RE: Improve Direct Query Date Time Handling
Directquery Is so límited, it makes it not a viable function.
Date herarchy, tablets, formats.
Please work on this.
This is not functional
RE: Improve Direct Query Date Time Handling
So disappointed where date time hierarchy is very crucial for the report. Microsoft PowerBI team has been focusing on the wrong part of enhancement and update! Issue has been floating since 2016 and still cant see the limelight of this.
We do not want fancy features, get the core basics right first! *Furious*
