The ability to enable or disable certain sharing settings in the Power BI admin portal is accompanied by default selections that cannot be modified. For example, if “People within your organization” is enabled, this same sharing feature becomes the default selection for all users who go through the process of sharing Power BI products. This could create a security concern if end users are not cautious enough to evaluate each instance of sharing. The same concept applies to the “Allow recipients to share this report” feature. Since Power BI grants users access to the report and not the underlying dataset, this feature could pose a security concern where data is made visible to audiences that should not have access. It is noted that row-level security or using DirectQuery methods to pass recipient’s credentials to the source are alternatives, but they may not be available in all instances. The ability to have flexible default selections on all sharing features allows administrators to create the best experience for Power BI users.
