With the addition of the Selection Pane in the October 2017 release, it would be great to be able to rename these selections so that they are easily manageable.

If you have multiple objects of the same name, i.e. Image, Text Box, it would be great to rename these (like in PowerPoint) so that you can clearly understand which ones you are hiding or making visible.

This is one of several selection pane improvements we have planned.

Agree this is much needed. Changing the title is not always an option, and really a pain/time consuming if you want to change lots of items.

Please! Because it is really time consuming to manage the objests without a proper name.

RE: Ability to rename items in the Selection Pane

With the addition of Bookmarks I think this becomes a better upgrade. It is often very tedious to try and sort through everything to show/hide for a particular bookmark. This would not only make the day-to-day easier, but would help here as well. I also noticed personalized booksmarks were on the list...I would be embarrassed to show our users the selection pane and ask them to set up their own bookmarks with the inability to rename items...

I think it should be a separate 'internal' name property of the visual, which is visible to the developer but not the end user - after all the whole selection pane is just for the developer. If this custom name is not entered, then it could default to the 'Title', and if it's not used either, than can default to the generic name.

The title change to OFF is not a valid option to me. Nice as workaround though

This can be done by changing the Title of the object (you can then hide the Title if it's not required). HT Dan Day in comments below.

Could the title configuration be modified for all visuals in general to support this? Allow a title to be entered even if the title is turned off. Maybe move the toggle inside the card, underneath the title entry.

Would also be helpful if it was possible to put the items in folders or in groups, for complex dashboards the selection pane can become quite messy.

RE: Ability to rename items in the Selection Pane

If anyone is interested there is a workaround you can use until this is properly implemented.

You can turn the title on for an item, give it a title, and then turn the title off and the item will use the title name.

Obviously only useable if you don't need the title and item name to be different.
