eg. If the page has a slicer for Year or Month, allow the user to configure the most recent Year or Month to be selected by default.
If there's any chance we could configure the default slicer selection with a measure, that'd be awesome! Thanks
This is a highly needed function indeed. The default period should just work automatically when an end-user opens a report and then they need to be able to filter for other periods as they need to. Unfortunately, many end-users are not so capable of doing advanced things with filters.
How does this only have 65 votes??? Seems kind of silly that you can't define a default "parameter."
Please provide a way to dynamically select a default value in a Slicer. For example, if a slicer has 4 quarters and I want the default selection to be the current quarter and let's say I add text "(current)" against the current quarter (based on when the quarter switch is done by our Finance team). If I have an option to set the default value of the slicer to the value that contains "(current)", it will be then fully automated. Currently, I have to manually change the default quarter selection every quarter and if I forget or miss it shows wrong quarter by default.
This is extremely important... Specially when dealing with RLS.
This seems like such a simple ask...
The proposed workaround for "last month" (using relative date filtering) makes it too complex for occasional Power BI users to change from the default "last month" to any another month.
Still really want this feature, because it is not covered by the workaround.
My scenario: I want my report to be default on the previous week.
My work around is to make a column in the calendar dimension that has "previous week" as value for the week that is the previous week. This works, but gives some other complications.
It would be great if there is the possibility to choose a dynamic default value for a slicer, for example highest value, second highest value or similar.
Not sure the new feature will cover this use case:
Have a SLICER with the current date already selected by default (still having the possibility to change the date).
The difficulty is that the current date could be based on the user Timezone or another selected filter. We are not using your filter pane because this pane is missing other features like Hierarchy filtering.
So basically this option to default select a value in a filter should be based on a dynamic function.
I have raised a support ticket & got a response from MS team. Currently this feature is still in review and don't have an ETA when it will be available. Most of the times, feature upgrades will be finalized on market analysis, feedback from users, development effort etc, factors.
So, other than waiting we don't have any other option. Hoping MS team will pick this up soon.
But, I found a work around to implement this logic. If you are embedding your reports into an application, make use of "Set Slicer State" before loading the report.
Hope this helps.

Update 10/20/2022 - Update from Mo - we are working on this in the new year
Thanks for everyone's votes and comments. This is a feature on our backlog; however we cannot share a timeline at the moment.
It looks like many of the requests will be addressed by the new 'Sticky filters' capability. Now when you log out of Power BI and come back to a report, the same items will be selected as when you left. For those who're looking to have a 'last month' selection, the relative date slicer might help. Those with comments about currencies where having multiple selected makes the report meaningless - the report will load with whatever selection the author saved, so if you save it with one currency selected your users will see that by default. If there are scenarios that these features don't address, please let us know in your comments - if you are really specific it'll help us build the feature to work just the way you want! Thanks again!
