Allow a user to set the default value for a slicer or tile-by value on a page/dashboard, so that when the Power View page is opened for the first time, the default value is selected.
eg. If the page has a slicer for Year or Month, allow the user to configure the most recent Year or Month to be selected by default.

Update 10/20/2022 - Update from Mo - we are working on this in the new year

Thanks for everyone's votes and comments. This is a feature on our backlog; however we cannot share a timeline at the moment.

It looks like many of the requests will be addressed by the new 'Sticky filters' capability. Now when you log out of Power BI and come back to a report, the same items will be selected as when you left. For those who're looking to have a 'last month' selection, the relative date slicer might help. Those with comments about currencies where having multiple selected makes the report meaningless - the report will load with whatever selection the author saved, so if you save it with one currency selected your users will see that by default. If there are scenarios that these features don't address, please let us know in your comments - if you are really specific it'll help us build the feature to work just the way you want! Thanks again!

This should have been out of the box... This feature was amazing in SSRS, why didn't they bring it to PBI is mind boggling...

RE: Default Selected Slicer or Tile-By Value Configuration

I am trying to get the most recent 13 calendar months to default in a slicer. For example, if today is 1/7/2022, I would like to default the slicers from 1/1/2021 - 1/7/2022. For many businesses, it is important to see the current month as well as the same month prior year. Is this something MS can add? It's easy to create a dax calendar that has this date range, but there is no option to create a default slicer.

RE: Default Selected Slicer or Tile-By Value Configuration

I have many reports featuring a date slicer with both a start and end date. An example would be an order history report; the report loads and the user wants to view order data between Date A and Date B. As of now, the Slicer loads with whatever dates were selected the last time I published the report--meaning the date is further in the past with each passing day. Ideally, we want the report to load with today's date selected for both Date A and Date B. That way they can simply set Date A to however far back they need (1 day, 1 week, 1 month, etc.).

It blows my mind this was not a stock feature on day 1 of Power BI.

RE: Default Selected Slicer or Tile-By Value Configuration

This is the most critical feature for me that Power BI is missing. Especially for a date range slicer, I need to be able to default to a specific date range that changes each month (i.e. I want to show the last 13 calendar months inclusive of the current month). For example, if today is 12/11/2021, I want the between slicer to show 12/1/2020 - 12/10/2021. But I also want users to be able to select any date range they want. In general, there must be a way to dynamically set all filters on factors that change (such as the date).

I can't believe that this feature is still not available. With every new update of Power BI, a bunch of not-so-needed/who-cares-about-this features are being introduced, together with a few bugs, but not the very basic and important ones like this one!

RE: Default Selected Slicer or Tile-By Value Configuration

Add me to the never-ending list of people who are wondering how Microsoft managed to miss including a setting to set the default value of a slicer to the max or min upon opening a report. My users need to see today's report by default upon opening the dashboard, not from when I happened to publish the dashboard days, weeks, or months ago. Something so basic, and so simple for you to implement, shouldn't be on a backlog when it has evidently been requested for years.

Being able to set a Date Slicer to "most recent date" would be a game changer. Honestly it should have been a "day one" kind of thing. Please implement this!

RE: Default Selected Slicer or Tile-By Value Configuration

In case this helps anyone else, we use a calendar table and created columns the evaluates the current date (in Power Query) and returns a month-year string for every value except "Prior Month", "Current Month" and "Next Month" - then we use the "StartOfMonth" column from the same calendar table to define the custom sort on this new "Relative Month" field with (usually) the "Prior Month" option saved as a single selection. We apply a descending sort on the slicer so the relative options are always on the top (usually a page filter on calendar is applied with "in the last" x "months" or x "calendar months." so we don't typically see future dates). The end user can then change their selection at will but the default will always be relative to current date. This same logic could be applied to additional relative columns for day, week, quarter, year... etc as needed - just make sure these get a custom sort column if you intend the end user to be able to change the selection.

RE: Default Selected Slicer or Tile-By Value Configuration

We hired outside consultants to write an add on program for us to achieve this. It is specifically a custom date slicer that defaults to YTD most recent month.
