Anyone who uses PowerBI long enough has had a PBIX with 50-60 measures and it has become time consuming and tedious to mantain. In Excel you can do a quick find/replace to edit several formulas - in PowerBI you need to select each one individually. An "excel-like" interface for editing measures would save a lot of time! This would take PowerBI to the next level regarding productivity. I've prepared a mockup for this as well as a DAX Editor. Let me know what you think.

RE: Measure Management & DAX Editor

I really would like to give control of the measure names to the end user, so when a measure name changes, I need the measure name to update too so when it comes to it we have to update every artifact that written in, now it doesn't happen often but its a big worry when the name is update in a table that is also easy to lookup from a Dax, here's an example of what I would want to do Lookup(Measure,1,Measure[Name]) = CALCULATE(SUM(ShiftHoursCal[New Total]))

RE: Measure Management & DAX Editor

For managing and editing measures at scale, Tabular Editor is a must-use tool; it works really well. The only measure related functionality that should be added directly into the Power BI Desktop editor is the ability to search in a report to find where measures are being used - this is currently lacking. Equally, there is a massive need to make Power BI Reports manageable as code, similar to what Tabular Editor has done for Datasets. Structure the Report definitions as a folder structure containing JSON defining visuals, formatting, and measures used.

RE: Measure Management & DAX Editor

Some companies don't allow third party software because of security issue. Which mean Power BI is seen as a standalone tool. Mesure & table management is most likely a must have asset to not lose a customer for a competing company

I'm sure the community tools are great. But, like many I'm in a locked down organisational setting and getting access to these would take an effort of persuasion and promotion I just don't have time for. If the "community tools" are approved by you then PBi should ship with them pre-loaded (or at least available to load).

RE: Measure Management & DAX Editor

The idea "List where a column or measure is used in a report" would be very useful as part of this.Since the encouraged method is to have a separate model and reporting, it would also be helpful to trace dependencies between reports.

RE: Measure Management & DAX Editor

In SSAS Multi multidimensional, there was an option for editing all measures in script mode. That was awesome and very easy to mange. But in power BI it seems Microsoft is going in reverse direction, that kind of functionality is expected by default.
