Revert Workspace Object list UI

The changes made in April 2023 update to the Service has seen the Workspace Object List a list of black and white text, and simple black and white icons for all objects.

This has made it very difficult for user experience (UX) to find what they are looking for almost hiding objects.

The previous version before the update had:

  • different colours to distinguish different object types - This was a very quick indictor of the object and worked really well
  • a tab for Content only or all object types - This was great for most users that only want to consume reports and will never work with Dataset etc.
  • Filters that stayed on even if you leave the page and return - the new filter resets everytime you leave the page and have to filter again and again

Im not asking for a revert exactly but a better UX in finding content you're interesting in very quickly in Workspaces (no just by filtering), the current simple black and white text and icons is not enough for most users, even as an advanced user im wasting time looking for things that was previously very quick to identify

It's like MS doesn't understand the concept of usability testing. I have never seen my company's users so overwhelmingly hate a UX update before. OP is spot on. It is embarrassing that these basic UX design best practices even need to be called out.Color-code the content types.Instead of a 2-click drop-down, have tabs or radio buttons in the top nav for filtering the content types.

Agreed, This update was terrible, who does the testing on this? I was accidentally converted a few weeks early and immediately saw the issues and reported them to my MS rep who said they were unaware of any changes. I was magically switched back the next morning. Now it's permanent and nothing got better.

I like the new icons, but the lack of color is REALLY problematic as is the lack of ability to add things into folders or group the artifacts in a workspace by type (here's looking at you, SharePoint).

This was a horrible step backwards, it's so much more difficult to differentiate between sets, flows and reports. Terrible decision at Microsoft. Was there no user engagement at all?

Please add color back to the icons. I like the clean icons but they are way too bland and difficult to tell apart at a glace. Also, the extra click required to switch between object types esp. reports and datasets is extremely irritating!
