At this time, a gateway will not function properly if you are using data sources and one is online and one is on-prem. As soon as the online data source is added, the gateway is designed to gray out because Power BI interprets that it is no longer needed. I would like to be able to combine data sources from both on-prem and online sources together with the use of gateways.

RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources

We spent quite a few hours on modifying SharePoint team site type, access rights, gateway authentication methods, ... because the gateway UI throws an authentication exception.
I might have cursed Microsoft and wished corporate bankruptcy upon them in a weak moment also...
HOWEVER: Get this fixed and - as usual - joy and tranquility will replace despair and frustration.
What is a (corporate) on premises data gateway if not a gateway to all our on premises + online data sources?? Kind regards, Inge V

Just adding my voice to the need to allow cloud and on premises data to mix via the enterprise gateway. O365 Sharepoint and SQL in my case.

Hi, the gateway update for August has been released. However, the same issue appears. Both by executing the gateway install via Power BI portal or via this official communication: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-on-premises-data-gateway-august-update/ . Any feedback on this?

Allowing on-premises gateway to combine with on-premises data source is a must have feature!!!

Will this include OAuth authentication support for SharePoint data files?

We need this for Excel data stored in O365, aka OneDrive for Business.

RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources

Will this also mean Azure Analysis Services won't require a separate gateway installation?

Fantastic news Miguel.

I genuinely believe if this features deliveries on our expectations, this would make PowerBI one of the best tools in the world! I've previously praised Microsoft's efforts on this product both to your team and the wider business world but it has been lacking this tiny feature for some time which has stopped it from being used by most organisations efficiently and effectively.

Bring on the update and some champagne!
