At this time, a gateway will not function properly if you are using data sources and one is online and one is on-prem. As soon as the online data source is added, the gateway is designed to gray out because Power BI interprets that it is no longer needed. I would like to be able to combine data sources from both on-prem and online sources together with the use of gateways.

RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
Hi all,
That's definitely a must-have Feature!
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
Hi PowerBI Team,
this is an important real world scenario.
We have about 20 customers who want to use O365 and combine data from on premise SQL Server.
We cannot use personal gateway in enterprise scenarios.
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
Agreed, frustrating that you can develop this way in the desktop client and then publish to find no option to schedule refresh.
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
Agree with other users on this. I am running into this limitation in several areas and hindering flexibility and speed to market for internal customers. Would be a huge help.
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
Combining on-prem gateway with online data is just fundamental to the success of this tool. I honestly cannot believe it has taken so long to put this feature available.
It is so unprofessional to offer the facility on the Desktop version and when you publish it to Power BI for the company, it CANNOT be used by anyone because you cannot associate a gateway for scheduled updates. At an ultimate level, you should be able to schedule updates per data-source but lets get the above issue sorted first please!
Frustratingly, I've created some of the most useful tools in our company's 10+ year history through Power BI Desktop. It combines about 6 different data sources for an ultimate mash-up of combined on-prem sql, 3rd party data (like google analytics) and some of our own online data.
Microsoft had create probably one of the worlds best products but without this ONE tiny point, it puts ALL of the hard work done by the Power BI team in the bin.
Please fix this ASAP!
Thanks in advance!
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
P.s. Is there an ETA yet for this feature? Thanks
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
Please add salesforce objects to the on-prem gateway. Salesforce connector is a big plus for Power BI but without the on-prem gateway it becomes irrelevant for enterprise setup.
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
Please add support for this. Installing the Personal Gateway is not a good workaround. Agree with others this is not clear. I wasted several hours trying to get this to work. We are trying to combine SQL Server data with Excel data in Office 365 SharePoint.
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
Hello everyone,
To be clear, you can combine gateway and most online data sources as long as you're not using oAuth. The item is on our backlog and we're planning to get it out in the next few months.
