At this time, a gateway will not function properly if you are using data sources and one is online and one is on-prem. As soon as the online data source is added, the gateway is designed to gray out because Power BI interprets that it is no longer needed. I would like to be able to combine data sources from both on-prem and online sources together with the use of gateways.

RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
This is a much needed critical feature
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
This is a major problem, trying to combine Dynamics online with an on prem SQL database and it's not possible. One of the key selling points of the product is being able to combine data sources and this is just not possible. Please fix!
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
We need to combine data from Salesforce, MySQL and SQL server database. Please add this feature. Thanks a lot.
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
I have a similar need to combine data from on-premise SQL database with data from SmartSheet.
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
Please, add this feature to updating data from GoogleDocs and another on-premisec sources
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
I assume this is already assumed, but I would say to allow the gateway to work with any combination of data sources. For example, if part is from an Excel spreadsheet that can't be refreshed, the SQL part should be refreshed by the gateway even though other parts are from other sources.
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
I'm Amazed!!, amazed that this had to be requested by the community in order to be put on the pipeline. I've wasted the better part of two working days trying to isolate why my combined dataset failed to refresh, only to find out that what I took for granted was something that Microsoft hadn't even considered.
Of course the user would want to combine on-premise and cloud data.
My best bet as to why this isnt a more popular suggestion is simply because the great majority of the users simply doesn’t even consider that this is even an issue, thus when failing to refresh their data they simply capitulate and move on.
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
This is simply a must - a huge blocker for many of my clients. I was surprised when i discovered this was even a problem.
I guess as there has not been an update since the 20th June that work is not yet underway which is a huge shame. Perhaps more sharing and voting will help?
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
Hi Dimah,
thanks for this suggestion, but I am sorry I have to tell you, that one of our partners was confronted with the issue, that also the personal gateway did not work. He got an error, that a connection with the datasource could not be made. Therefore the personal gateway is not a real workaround! Please fix this issue as soon as possible :-)
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
In the PTC team we have got an issue by a partner. He wrote:
"We would like to combine different data sources, in our case On-Prem SQL Server and Dynamics CRM Online. But after uploading the pbix file the option to shift to the Enterprise Gateway is greyed out, if (!) there is used a combination of On-Prem SQL Server and Dynamics CRM Online data sources.
Without such a combination - e.g. if only On-Prem SQL Server is used - the Enterprise Gateway does not cause any problems.
Is there any chance to combine the On-Prem SQL Server and Dynamics CRM Online?”
So here we are faced with the same problem described in most of these comments. It really would be necessary, that the Enterprise Gateway lives up to it's name! :-)
