At this time, a gateway will not function properly if you are using data sources and one is online and one is on-prem. As soon as the online data source is added, the gateway is designed to gray out because Power BI interprets that it is no longer needed. I would like to be able to combine data sources from both on-prem and online sources together with the use of gateways.

RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
Jean-Pierre did you mean not working right?
Not working: SharePoint Folder (excel file) and MySQL On-Premises (into separated queries)
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
Just to add my results to those provided by Helge :
Note working : SharePoint Folder (excel file) and MySQL On-Premises (into separated queries)

Status update?
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
Is this going to include a fix to merging different sources, both on prem, and that causing the gateway to be unavailable?
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
'We tested the new version of the Enterprise Gateway and the improvements. Please find below our results:
Working:
- Create a dataset with a mixture of cloud and on prem data sources, e.g. SharePoint Online and SQL on Prem
Not Working (Enterprise Gateway is greyed out):
- A combination of cloud and on prem data sources in a query, e.g. Source = Table.Combine({OnPremQueryResult, CloudQueryResult})
Sidenote
- A dataset which uses the Azure Consumptions Insights connector in combination with any on Prem Datasource, even if there is no combination among theses queries (this works if you do not use the Azure Consumptions Insights connector).
Thank you for fixing the combination issue as soon as possible.
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
Any update on this?
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
I have experienced the same thing as Mike Honey in the oil and gas industry. Our users were very excited to be able to use the Enterprise Gateway for combining on-prem and cloud sources but then without data-mashup they said what is the point. I hope you guys continue to make progress in this regard since we have 100's of users who are still waiting.
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
It looks like this has missed the November release, ref https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/on-premises-data-gateway-november-update-is-now-available/
It's frustrating as there was lot's of other functionality added, which all seems edge/niche use cases. I estimate this mashup issue trips up and frustrates hundreds of users every day - they build something that seems fine in PBI Desktop, then can't use the gateway to refresh.
RE: Combine enterprise gateway and online data sources
It is possible to combine data sources from both online sources and on-prem using on-premises data gateway (personal mode). I have never tried enterprise solution but in my opinion doesn't make sense if enterprise version can't complete what on-premises data gateway (personal mode) can.

Thanks. how soon?
