Here's why: I would dearly like to ditch slicers from a report in favour of the Filters pane in order to free up precious screen real-estate, but often slicers are set up so that they only filter *some* things and not others, whereas things in the Filters pane are global, as far as I can tell.
I was hoping that the filters pane was going to be a baked-in replacement for the kind of thing Matt Allington et al are doing at https://exceleratorbi.com.au/create-a-power-bi-slicer-panel/ and while I like Matt's approach, it still obscures the report when the slicers panel is visible. So having one that 'floats' like your Filters pane is great, but it truly will be twice as good if you treat the filters on it like visuals in their own right.
Even better, why not extend the awesome concept of the Filters pane so that it's a special part of the canvas where you can park anything you like, and have it collapse when not needed. Now THAT would be incredible.
100+ this request. Having the ability to turn on/off interactions between filters would be a huge improvement and make it much easier to actually use the Filters pane, especially when it comes to embedded scenarios for large organizations with complex filtering requirements for reports.
It would especially nice if the Filters pane supported a similar type of filtering behavior that we have with slicers, meaning you can filter the filter pane values using measures as well as other slicers.
seriously, if this were implemented or would make reports way more flexible, as well as give more power to the end user.
Agree!
Lets move away from slicers - that take up space on reports.
We want to use the space to show results and analyse - not filtering.
The new Filter Pane added to the latest Feb 2019 update is great! But, when applied to existing reports which had interactions disabled for some filters, it breaks the whole report.
Please can there be a functionality to apply "Edit Interactions" to the each slicer within the new Filter Pane?
Thanks ever so much.
Both the Page and Report filters should be considered in the functionality of "Edit Interactions", just like a slicer is. For example lets say that I have a trend chart showing me all the months of the year. Other charts are for say Product Bar Chart, Customer grid etc.. Now if I want to see Product sales for a month, and if I select the month in the Page filter, then even the trend chart gets filtered. I should have an option to disconnect the trend chart from the filters.
One great feature of using slicers is the ability define what visuals ignore those slicer settings.
The new filter experience could effectively replace slicers if it had the same capacity to define which visuals it applied to. You can always define the filter at the visual level, but It would be better to define a report level or page level filter that would affect many visuals but we could control which.
Expand the Edit Interactions functionality to include the new Filter Pane Visual/Page/Report filters.
eg I would be able to pre-filter the values for just the Page Level Filters from a slicer.
Currently, no visuals affect the Filter Pane items. So this would be a big improvement in usability for the Filter Pane.
Really need this right now, +1! Having to use slicers is unfortunately not an option right now - need to limit interaction to the filters pane
