I have a large set of options from which I would like to pick some specific ones and use them in a slicer to filter my data.
Currently, this is not possible while it is an implemented feature for other chart types.
I'm currently using a 100% stacked column chart as a workaround.

I'm happy to say this is now complete! In the June 2019 release of Power BI Desktop you'll see you can set visual level filters on slicers. There's one known issue where applying a measure filter to a slicer in range mode causes the visual to show an error. We'll release a fix in an interim update before the July release. Thanks for your patience and your votes, everyone!

RE: Visual level filtering in slicers
So ... it's been about a year. And while there is a "Visual level" filter on slicers now, it doesn't work (nothing can be dropped to it). When will users be able to filter data in slicers, without making it a Page level filter?
RE: Visual level filtering in slicers
This would help with custom Date filters / slicers - especially the default date/calendar slicer

Want to disable values that dont have data (for example year 2019)
RE: Visual level filtering in slicers
The Admin stated in July 2016 that this was going to be put to the BI team. It's almost been a year. When will we get this basic functionality? It is causing a lot of extra data manipulation work and headaches.

RE: Visual level filtering in slicers
My data source has default Year beginning with 1900. My customers would like to filter and see visuals for the last 5 years only. This feature would bring efficiency and effectiveness to Power BI as well as relevance to my customers.

This way we could make the most of the canvas with visuals, using only the indispensable slicers.
