It'd be great to be able to freeze a left hand column in a table so users can scroll and keep track of what row they're looking at

This is badly needed in order to replicate basic functioning in SSRS. It is needed for basic tables since matrix reports are not always appropriate. This is so basic, I can't believe PBI can't do this.

Is this still not an option? We really need to be able to freeze columns on the left in a table view, without that option it makes it really difficult to read the report when scrolling to the right.

Hey - also we do have some very good use cases for this and would highly appreciate such a function in the table visual! Looking forward for this.

If this is possible in Power Pivot, why is it taking a long time to implement it in PowerBI

Matrix is an option but you can't order value columns in matrix only the first column
