It would be great if Grand Totals on a Matrix or Table would add up correctly to the sum of the rows when you include MEASURES in the visual. Currently the total on a measure consists of the measure function itself, instead of the sum of the rows above. PLEASE give us the option to toggle totals to be a simple aggregate of the rows above also.

Moving this idea to "under review" to mark that discussions are underway. For full transparency, we have started working on DAX calculations at the visual level. That feature will make changes that will serve as building blocks for other features, including but not limited to the one discussed in this idea: providing more flexibility for influencing what is shown on the total: the visual total, the "DAX" total, or another expression altogether.

Hence, the delivery of this Idea will be dependent on the DAX-calculations-on-a-visual feature.

RE: Matrix/Table grand totals with Measures

I think it could be a choice. Maybe we could have a parameter in the matrix settings to select the optimal behavior for total calculations in each situation.

RE: Matrix/Table grand totals with Measures

As a user coming from Tableau this is is so infuriating that I can’t simply toggle between totals being calculated on a visual level, or on using the underlying calc. Using sumx to correct this can get difficult with using virtual tables. - please make this easier for your users!

Please repair it as it's really BAD.

RE: Matrix/Table grand totals with Measures

Add, please, easy variant to sum measures in total rows, for example, in check-button:

- sometimes we have to sum measures in total row (see reference),
- sometimes we want to get result of measure calculation as it is

Adding average column/row to a matrix (similar to showing the total column/row)

RE: Matrix/Table grand totals with Measures

Actually grand total and subtotals only summarizes according to the function of the displayed value, but it is necessary sometimes, summarize: sum,average,count... at the same matrix, for example it is not easy if the value displayed only is sum . There are way to achieve this, but it is not as simple as if you could choose in the subtotal properties of the matrix if I want to see sum, average, count or another

RE: Matrix/Table grand totals with Measures

When setting values in the matrix visual there are no options to use a non-summarized value, instead they all must be summed, averaged, min, max, etc. We have seen this become an issue when using a DAX measure as the value. The measure will calculate correctly for each line item in the matrix but will total incorrectly at summary levels by summing all values or averaging all values rather than giving the measure for the data as a whole. Allowing for no summarization will allow the calculation to run as expected.

RE: Matrix/Table grand totals with Measures

In a table, it can make sense to put a sum in the total row, but in some cases, ex.: when the field is a rate or a percentage, it would make more sense to put an average instead of a sum.

Student A got 70% in his exam
Student B got 80% in his exam
Student C got 90% in his exam

Knowing that the sum of all % is 240% is futile. However, it would be relevant to know that the average for this exam is 80%.
