Currently each Power BI report published to the Report Server has its own data source embedded within the report. Any change in the source would require us to change hundreds of published reports individually. Could we have a shared data source/connection similar to SSRS Reports that would help us manage deployment and changes much more efficiently.

We're not planning to make this feature available in Power BI Report Server. We are looking at making available an API to allow you to change the data source programatically, however, to make movement between servers easier.

Please add this feature so that it is much easier to manage connections for the reports.

Major oversight leaving this ability out. Please implement ASAP.

This was something available, and usable in SSRS all the way back to SQL-2000. I would think that not having shared datasources for on-prem power BI reporting server makes it a NON starter and makes me wonder if the old Chrystal Reports is a better product; Or is there an Open Source alternative

This is a much needed feature so we can manage all the sources at one place and also used one source for multiple reports. Easy to maintain for password changes? or if we have to point all reports to a different server one place shot!

Please consider this for the next release of PBIRS.

Deployment is currently error-prone and time consuming, having to change the DS for every single report, one at a time. At least if the DataSource table could be in plain text we could at script DS changes more easily.

We need this so we can advance reports through development, acceptance and production environments. Being unable to use shared data sources is critical for us to deploy PBI to our enterprise.

Without shared data source, it's just painful for the enterprise environment.

When I create a Data Source in Power BI Server, works perfect. But I can not connect this Data Source that is on the server within my reports. So I have 4 reports that use the same Data Source, and connect them to the shared one. I have read that this Shared Data Source is only available to use for SSRS paginated reports and mobiles reports:

Totally agree, without shared data sources, it doesn't scale for an enterprise environment. Please consider this for the next release of PBIRS.
