Allow a user to set the default value for a slicer or tile-by value on a page/dashboard, so that when the Power View page is opened for the first time, the default value is selected.
eg. If the page has a slicer for Year or Month, allow the user to configure the most recent Year or Month to be selected by default.

Update 10/20/2022 - Update from Mo - we are working on this in the new year

Thanks for everyone's votes and comments. This is a feature on our backlog; however we cannot share a timeline at the moment.

It looks like many of the requests will be addressed by the new 'Sticky filters' capability. Now when you log out of Power BI and come back to a report, the same items will be selected as when you left. For those who're looking to have a 'last month' selection, the relative date slicer might help. Those with comments about currencies where having multiple selected makes the report meaningless - the report will load with whatever selection the author saved, so if you save it with one currency selected your users will see that by default. If there are scenarios that these features don't address, please let us know in your comments - if you are really specific it'll help us build the feature to work just the way you want! Thanks again!

RE: Default Selected Slicer or Tile-By Value Configuration

The scenario I'm working with is data-level language translations. I've got all the work done to swap out the column for the correct language based on a slicer/language table, but what I want is to be able to default that slicer to the USERCULTURE value in a DAX measure. That way when a es-ES user visits the page it automatically sets the filter and they do not have to choose a data-translation language. Metadata translations work fine via Translation Builder, but the data-level one seem to require the user specifically choosing a language. Having this feature completed would solve this issue I think.

I asked and got an update from Mohammad at power platform conference 24: it's still in progress, implementation was blocked by a major technical issue, but it is still being worked on and will happen at some point in the future.

RE: Default Selected Slicer or Tile-By Value Configuration

Hello MSFT,Any update on this?We really need the capability of assigning default date on date slicers. User should be able to assign the start and end date before the report loads so that it will not requires a refresh when the value changes. It can be implement thru a measures that can be assigned when the slicer style is 'Between' .Another nice to have is a configuration when user selected a date range that is too narrow it should come up with a custom warning msg. For example i configured it that the date should always be 7 days apart, when users selected less than 7 it will give a warning base on configured message Regards,

RE: Default Selected Slicer or Tile-By Value Configuration

I have a date field. I want the slicer to use Between. Default the Minimum to 1 year ago, Maximum to today.

RE: Default Selected Slicer or Tile-By Value Configuration

I have a dashboard which is comparing the last two month's data. Currently, this works by having exactly two months loaded in.I have a replacement prepared which can also show historical data. However, this breaks the user workflow because it cannot automatically show the current situation. Instead, this must be selected manually. Being able to set the slicer to MAX (via measure or otherwise) when the user has not chosen an earlier value is essential to allow the old dashboard to be removed and users redirected to the new solution. In my case, this is not aligned to months and therefore uses a serial (e.g. R05, R06...) instead of a date field. It is therefore important that default values are available to all field types and not just dates.

RE: Default Selected Slicer or Tile-By Value Configuration

Please make an update to the current state! The Relativ Date Slicer is not helpfull at all. Everytime a new month has started, it needs to change the current month to the actual month - not the workaround with "current month" as the name.Thank you.

RE: Default Selected Slicer or Tile-By Value Configuration

To Power BI users everywhere: Please let Microsoft know the product is not really functional without slicers that can be preselected intelligently. For example, there is no way to preselect the most recent month (in a way that allows other date ranges to be selected). Yes there are ridiculous workarounds that take huge amounts of effort and don't really work.
