Hi Microsoft Fabric Community, We observes a behaivor that the Excel file downloaded from the summarized data exporting feature from Power BI embedded reports shows a message “We found a problem with some content in 'exportname.xlsx'. Do you want us to try to recover as much as we can? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes.” when it is opened. This message may affect users' trust regarding the data source. It would be better if we can address this behavior in the future to enhance user experience. Kindly upvote this idea if you also find it resonable. Thank you for your attention!

Currently the new Key Vault reference feature only allows to use a KV with public access from all networks. However most customers cannot have Key Vaults open to public which makes this feature unusable at the moment. Could you extend this to work with network-restricted Key Vaults?

I can't see the column names and cell values in some of the columns in my tables in SQL Analytics Endpoint because the column width is too narrow.
Also, the tooltip also doesn't show the entire cell contents when hovering over a cell.
Please make it possible to see the entire contents of a cell in the SQL Analytics Endpoint user interface.

As stated in the document below, the ViewReport event is logged even when an email is sent via the subscription service. Title : Monitor usage metrics in the workspaces (preview) - Considerations and limitations URL : https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/collaborate-share/service-modern-usage-metrics#considerations-and-limitations Due to this default behavior, the view count increases even if the report has not actually been opened, but only the email has been received.I would like to request the implementation of a feature that only counts the number of times the report has actually been opened.

Considering the most powerful and versatile machines are being built on ARM processors and many developers preferring these machines due to the extended battery life, or performance per watt, I think it would be critical for Microsoft to start developing Power BI Desktop to be fully compatible with ARM64 processors. Windows ARM with a snapdragon processor is a great machine. It is where all machines are going. It's time for Power BI Desktop to get up to speed with everything else.

Assume in your data model you have Many-to-One relationship between your 'FactTbl' and 'DimTbl' on the column 'CustomerKey' and the the connection is in DirectQuery mode. Now assume that bad data is entered in your 'DimTbl' and it has caused that you have a duplicate value in the column 'CustomerKey' of your 'DimTbl'. If you refresh your Power BI, it gets refreshed successfully without any errors. Now what happens? If you have created visualizations before, you might see some data in your visuals that is too weird which are caused by Many-to-Many Relationship behavior. You go and check your data model to find out the reason and it shows you that the relationship is Many-to-One and it is too frustrating as you cannot find the reason of what you see ! But the same case in Import mode works fine and once you hit the Refresh button in Power BI, it gives you the error: "Column CustomerKey contains a duplicate value and this is not allowed for columns on the one side of a many-to-one relationship or for the columns that are used as the primary key of a table". The same error is expected in DirectQuery mode as well and it needs to be fixed. Regards, Loran

Our Situation Within our enterprise we want to expand the Microsoft Fabric Adoption by providing Semantic Models which are maintained by our IT Department (In the past, the IT Department only provided the Capacity Units; everything beyond was business managed n+1 times and not aligned between departments). Currently we have the IT-managed semantic models in a different Fabric Workspace than the IT-managed Lake- and Warehouses. Below a picture which visualizes this setup on an example data source: Goal 1: All business users of our enterprise should be able to see the semantic model workspace and the names / description / endorsement of the semantic models they contain. Goal 2: Within the semantic model we want to control what data a user is able to see, e.g. through Column-level security (CLS). Goal 3: All business users should be able to create reports with semantic models they have access to, while they should not have access to the below whole Lake- or Warehouse (to maintain Goal 2). Goal 4: If a user has "Viewer"-Access to a workspace, he should be able to see all contained report names in the overview list. Warehouse Workspace Permissions: Business User: Does not have any permissions assigned IT User: Has "Member"-Access assigned to workspace Semantic Model Workspace Permissions: Business User: Has "Viewer"-Permission assigned IT User: Has "Member"-Access assigned to workspace Semantic Model Direct access Permissions: Business User: Has "Build"-Permission assigned manually and automatically inherit's "Workspace Viewer"-Permission. IT User: Has All Permissions assigned Current Issues we face: 1. User is not able to see semantic model (direct lake SSO mode) if he has no access "Viewer"-Access to the Warehouse Workspace. This will result in the following UI-behavior: The default workspace view will show "There is nothing here yet" as text. If you switch to the Lineage-View with the button on the upper right side, the user is able to see the name of the semantic model as expected (Goal 1). ==> We think this is an UI Bug and should be fixed, in order that both views show the same data. In our example this would mean that both views show the name of the semantic model. Besides the UI-Bug, we are not sure how to handle this one - maybe "direct lake fixed identity mode" could be an option (?). Besides this we could assign "Viewer"-Access to the workspace of the warehouse but would then bypass Goal 2. Happy to recieve some Ideas on this. 2. User is not able to see an existing report within a workspace if he has not the "Build"-Permission assigned to the used semantic model We would expect that while in the workspace overview, the user is able to see every report name the workspace contains if he has "Viewer"-Workspace-Permissions assigned. ==> The current behavior will give misleading information to the user The Idea we have We believe that there are other enterprises as well which want to give the visibility over existing semantic models metadata (title, description, endorsement, etc.) to all their users, while the data access itself is handled differently. There should be an Microsoft Learn Article about the best-practicies to share semantic model metadata with the whole company while enabling users with data access to build custom reports as well. In addition, the permission view of the semantic model UI should include those instructions as well. Maybe a diagram could be a good option as well to visualize who will have access. Last words Our IT Department is still quite new to Microsoft Fabric Permission Management which is why a good documentation and helpfull UI hints are essential to fulfill our Goals 1-4. We want to enable our business to achieve the best results fast!

I'd like to see Power BI read and populate metadata from database source tables/columns and populate the description field in the power bi semantic model for those same tables and columns. Instead what I have to do now is maintain that metadata in two different locations (Eg maintaining table/coulmn description in Snowflake) and maintain that same metadata in my power bi semantic model. thanks for consideration. The current card visual forces users to overlap elements or waste copious amounts of time creating custom visuals. The new card feature should give users the ability to create multiple cards in a single container and provide a greater level of customization.

It would be beneficial to incorporate features from Pivot tables that allow for the expansion and collapse of columns and hierarchical column groups within tabular visuals. This would not only solve the current limitations of matrices but also provide report creators with the flexibility to hide and show rows and columns, saving these settings for future use, thus eliminating the need to scroll through irrelevant data.

Enabling customized calculations at the query level for subtotals and grand totals would offer greater flexibility in reporting and preserve performance. Efficient organization of control settings to modify the style of these totals separately will empower report creators to achieve their desired appearance, while addressing their need for more control and customization in reporting.

Imagine a world where report creators can automatically apply slicer and filter selections based on specific logic, revolutionizing data analysis and user experience. This innovative approach eliminates any need for complex workarounds, optimizes slicer functionality, and paves the way for more efficient and effective data reporting.

I was working on a report in Power BI Desktop and encountered this issue. I wanted to turn off the default cross highlighting/filtering in the report. I went to File -> Options and Settings -> Options. Under Current File -> Query reduction, I turned on 'Disabling cross highlighting/filtering by default'. However, it does not work as expected. Also, when I saved, closed the file, and opened it again, the same option was turned off.

Interpreting visuals without a clear legend to indicate logic behind specific styles can lead to confusion and decision-making errors. An idea to enhance clarity and transparency by ensuring legends and tooltips accurately display colors, patterns, and other visual components influenced by logics, would enable report consumers to easily understand the applied logic and make more effective decisions.

We have a need to share the data pipelines to users to delegate the capability to only execute them on demand, but not edit them. Currently a user needs to be granted a Workspace Contributor role to be able to execute the pipeline, just a reader role is not enough. But that also grants the user the ability to either intentionally or unintentially save/update the pipeline. Also right now there is no option in the three dots drop down menu of a data pipeline item to be able to execute the pipeline by passing the parameters and run it. Yes there is a option to schedule that let you run the pipeline, but does not give you an option to pass the input parameters. If there was a way to run the pipeline and pass input parameters without opening the data pipeline item at all (like shown in the screenshot), that would be nice. Instead of opeining the pipeline, then hitting run, and then pass the parameters, that can help eleviate the risk of users saving the dafault parameters or deleting activites, that should help make it a better experience for both creators and consumers of the pipeline. Or not sure if there is a way to seperate out pipeline execute only permission (without edit) and pipeline create/edit permission to different workspace roles, that would also help. Add Run option in the 3 dot (...) menu of the pipeline item to execute the pipeline passing input parameters

Currently, Power BI Desktop does not provide any built-in mechanism to log or audit user sign-ins. This creates a visibility gap for organizations that need to: Monitor license usage . Track who is accessing Power BI Desktop and when. Audit user behavior for security and governance purposes. While Power BI Service and Microsoft 365 offer audit logs, these do not cover local Power BI Desktop usage. We would like to request the addition of a feature in Power BI Desktop that allows administrators to track user sign-in activity, especially for users with Power BI Pro or Premium licenses.

As already reported and discussed here: https://community.fabric.microsoft.com/t5/Data-Engineering/Some-methods-in-notebooks-do-not-work-when-executed-from-Data, and based on the feedback from Microsoft support that this is a known issue and that an Idea should be opened for this - I suggest this issue is further analyzed and a fix or workaround is suggested. Reference support case I opened (and also more people opened the support case with the same issue): 2504161420001430
